This month Bates Art Bar is thrilled to feature Courtney Fishback, the Wisconsin artist behind Forkin Creations — a body of work that refuses to stay in one lane and is all the better for it.
About Courtney
Courtney Fishback is a visionary artist inspired by the world immediately surrounding her — the Lake Superior shoreline, the natural world, the objects and materials that most people overlook. Her practice spans an impressively wide range of mediums: original paintings, mixed-media collage, murals, handmade metal jewelry crafted from upcycled vintage silverware, and commissioned pieces built to order.
What ties it all together is a sensibility that is simultaneously playful and deeply felt. Titles like When Butterflies Left for the Moon, Pieces of Me. Pieces of You., and Mona Tea Bag, the Creator tell you everything you need to know — this is work with a sense of humor and a genuine interior life. It earns a second look.
What's on Display
The works on display this month pull from Courtney's ongoing painting and collage practice, featuring pieces from 2017 through the present. Her collages in particular reward time — layers of material and meaning that reveal themselves slowly.
Commission a Piece
Courtney accepts commissions. If something you see on display sparks an idea for a custom work, ask at the bar and we'll connect you directly.
